Penultimate Frazz Strip

Some comics have begun to feature comments on misused words. Candorville does it all the time, and the Frazz strip for June 6, 2011, has a nice treatment of “penultimate.”

If you're not familiar with the strip, you should know that the little kid is Caulfield (yes, named by highly educated parents after Holden). He's brilliant and much smarter than his terrible teacher, Mrs. Olson. The janitor he enjoys talking with is Frazz.

Today Pearls Before Swine features a crocodile who confuses “revolting” with “rebelling.”

See p. 171 of Common Errors in English Usage for my own discussion of “penultimate” and p. 193 for “rebelling/revolting.”
